ADMAT's St Kitts Maritime Archaeological Project - School Visit
The lower bow section of the large wreck in White House Bay. This wreck is believed to be an English Troopship. The current hypothesis is that the ship was, carrying 700 English Troops under the Command of General Prescott. The troops landed on the South Western peninsular of St Kitts and marched to Basseterre to meet 5,000 French Troops. We believe the ship was sunk as a result of the Battle of Frigate Bay
On the next news page, you will see how the children of the Montessori Academy at Wades Gardens, ranging from 5 to 12 years of age, undertook a clean up of the site on Friday 7th March. This enabled the ADMAT team to erect the base camp for the project on a clean environment.
We wanted to invite the children back, not only to say thank you, but to let them know what we were doing. So a number of children and teachers arrived for a morning with us, where we explained what the project was about. It was delightful to see how excited they were by the project. We took them through the whole archaeological process, explaining the site and showing them the artefacts found so far. Simon then showed them the video link to the divers on site and told them the history behind the Battle of Frigate Bay.
